Despite a decline, overall, for violent crimes and homicides in the Nation’s capital, Washington, DC continues to be an extraordinarily high crime riddled city. City authorities totaled a total of 134 homicides at the end of the year last year, which is considered very high, although the prior year there were 162 homicides reported. Down by just 4%, the city is still higher than the national average crime rate as well as the state’s overall crime rates.
