Leonardo DiCaprio’s $13.8 Million Malibu Retreat
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the world’s most successful actors in terms of popularity and earnings. He was born in Los Angeles on November 11, 1974, and he began his career in 1989.
DiCaprio started out appearing in television commercials, then had some small roles in television series. He then began to land small film roles until appearing in his first major film, the 1993 movie ‘This Boy’s Life.’ In the same year, he played Arnie Grape, a disabled teen, in the film ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.’ Leonardo Di Caprio received Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for his performance in the film.
The actor’s international fame expanded after appearing in ‘Titanic’ alongside Kate Winslet. DiCaprio then became known for his collaborations with director Martin Scorsese, including ‘Gangs of New York’ and ‘Catch Me If You Can.’ Other films in which Leonardo DiCaprio has starred include ‘The Aviator,’ ‘Blood Diamond,’ ‘The Departed,’ ‘Inception,’ ‘Django Unchained,’ ‘The Revenant,’ ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.
DiCaprio is ranked as one of the highest-paid actors in the world, and Wealthy Gorilla says that the actor has an estimated net worth of $300 million. One way that he spends his wealth is buying property, and DiCaprio has recently splashed out $13.8 million on a Malibu retreat to add to his already impressive real estate portfolio.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Impressive Real Estate Portfolio
DiCaprio was far from short of somewhere to stay prior to buying his Malibu retreat as he already owns properties in various locations. His main residence is a three-house, four parcel compound in the Bird’s Street neighborhood of Los Angeles.
He also owns an apartment in Battery Park City in Manhattan and several luxury condos in New York City for when he is on the East Coast. The actor owns a property in Palm Springs, California, that was once the residence of Dinah Shore.
It was designed by mid-century modern architect Donald Wexler, and DiCaprio bought the property in 2014. His portfolio also includes two multimillion-dollar properties in Los Feliz. Leonardo DiCaprio has expanded his real estate portfolio beyond bricks and mortar properties, as he bought an island called Blackadore Caye in 2009.
The island is off the coast of mainland Belize, and DiCaprio intends to create an environmentally-friendly resort on the island. In the past, Leonardo DiCaprio owned three oceanfront houses in Malibu.
He sold one of the properties in 2009 for $7.4 million, and then in 2013, he sold off a larger property on the outskirts of Malibu Colony for $17.4 million.
The actor still owns the third property, although it is listed for sale at $10 million. It seems that DiCaprio may also have future plans to create another home in this area, as he bought a vacant lot for $23 million in 2017.
It sits atop Paradise Cove in Malibu and has spectacular views. Although he has owned the lot for more than four years, DiCaprio has not yet developed on the land.
An Overview of His New Malibu Retreat
Despite selling his three Malibu properties, it seems that Leonardo DiCaprio is still keen to own property in this location, as he has now splashed out $13.8 million on another oceanfront home in Malibu. DiCaprio bought the property from Rick Delamarter, an orthopedic surgeon.
The property he has bought was never listed on the open market, and the off-market deal was closed in August 2021. It is a two-story property that was built in 2005. Internally, it measures 3,268-square-feet, and it sits on a lot of 0.33-acres.
There are four bedrooms and five bathrooms. The property is in Blue White Estates, which is a gated community with only five residences. Each of the properties in the community has direct ocean access.
Inside DiCaprio’s $13.8 Million Malibu Home
As the sale of the property took place off-market, photographs of the Malibu home’s interior are limited. However, there are enough images to give a general feel of the property’s interior style and general layout.
Through the oceanfront house’s front door, there is an airy corridor leading to the open-plan great room to the rear of the residence and a wooden staircase leading to the bedrooms on the second floor.
From the entranceway, there are views straight through the house to the Pacific Ocean. Throughout the lower story of the property, there are wooden floors and white-painted beamed ceilings. Floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors run across the full width of the house. These lead to the deck and overlook the ocean.
The living room runs along the right side of the great room, while the dining area is beside the sliding glass doors to the rear left of the room. Connecting to the dining area and with a separate entrance from the foyer is the kitchen.
It boasts dark gray cabinetry, gray marble countertops, and stainless-steel appliances. On the second story are the bedrooms, including the master suite. In the spacious master suite, there are wooden floorboards, and two armchairs are arranged next to the sliding glass doors so the future occupant can enjoy the ocean views.
Alternatively, they can step through the sliding doors onto the private deck to take in the ocean breeze and enjoy the California sunshine.
The Exterior of DiCaprio’s New Malibu Home
Like many Malibu beachfront homes, the outdoor space is limited to a deck at the property’s rear. The wooden deck is surrounded by glass panels, so the ocean views are uninterrupted. On the deck, there is a hot tub and plenty of space for alfresco dining and entertaining.
There are steps leading down from the terrace to the beach below. Although the outdoor space is only small, it doesn’t matter when there is direct access to the ocean and miles of sandy beach.
