The Purchase of the Los Angeles Home

Although Reese Witherspoon and her husband bought their new home in March 2019, it did not become public knowledge until December because of the COVID lockdowns in California. It is now known that Witherspoon bought the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom property for $15.9 million. The property is in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angele’s Westside, and it sits in a discreet location in a canyon. Witherspoon bought the property from Michael and Joyce Ostin, although she has not yet moved into the home. Prior to buying the palatial Los Angeles property, Witherspoon sold some of her other houses. Real estate heiress Meg Haney purchased Witherspoon’s Malibu ranch for $6.7 million, and Witherspoon sold her Pacific Palisades home for $17 million to AutoZone heiress Robin Formanek.

Inside the Brentwood Property

The English Country-style mansion was built in 1993, and the interior measures 9,500-square-feet. From the moment you step through the doors into the foyer, the extent of the space available is immediately evident. The foyer boasts a double-height ceiling, dark brown ceiling beams, dark hardwood floors, and white paneled walls. There is also a stunning staircase leading up to the spacious landing on the next level of the property. There are multiple living spaces to enjoy on the house’s ground floor, including a large living room with a fireplace, a formal dining room, a small breakfast room, and a wood-paneled library. The main living area is large enough to have the furniture arranged in such a way that the room is divided into different sections. There are two separate sitting areas, and a table and chairs sit in the bay window.

Currently, the wood-paneled library is used as a second sitting room or family room. While one wall houses floor-to-ceiling bookcases, another has a large, wall-mounted television. Settees and armchairs surround a central coffee table to create the perfect space for relaxing as a family and either reading or watching a movie. The formal dining room is octagonal with a beamed ceiling and doors leading out onto a patio. The ground floor also boasts a magnificent gourmet kitchen that features white cabinetry and light gray marble countertops. There is such an abundance of high-end, stainless steel appliances in the kitchen to delight most professional chefs, including no less than four large ovens. A large window in the kitchen overlooks the garden.

Central to the kitchen is a large island, above which are three large lights. The island has cabinets for storage, a large marble countertop for extra workspace, and a second sink. It is set up with breakfast bar stools, so it is also a place for informal dining. Although there are seven bedrooms in this property, all of which are ensuite, it is the master that is the most breathtaking. Located on the property’s upper floor, the master bedroom is larger than some of the house’s living area. It looks even larger thanks to the vaulted ceiling, which gives the bedroom a spacious and airy feel. The master suite boasts dual master baths with built-in soaking tubs for relaxing at the end of a busy day. There is also a walk-n closet with built-in shelving for extra storage. Downstairs, there are also two bedroom suites that were intended for live-in staff, although they are also ideal for guest accommodation. The remainder of the residence’s bedrooms are on the upper floor, along with the master suite.

The Exterior of Witherspoon’s Home

Witherspoon’s new home sits in a discreet location in a Brentwood canyon and his hidden from public view. The house is on a three-acre plot that is entered via a private road and a huge security gate. There is a winding driveway leading to the front of the expansive property, at the end of which there is a formal circular motor court. Although this offers plenty of parking, there is also a three-car attached garage at the property. Surrounding the driveway and motor court are mature trees and lawned areas. According to Dirt.com, the grounds are divided into different sections of sprawling lawns, areas covered by mature trees, and pretty patios. The exterior of the property provides the perfect environment for feeling close to nature, relaxing, and entertaining. Each section of the garden has something different to offer. One of the main features of the garden is the full-size saltwater swimming pool, which has an inset spa. There is also an outdoor kitchen, which is ideal for alfresco dining and entertaining. Several patios offer an array of outdoor eating options, and one of the patios has a large outdoor fireplace, which is perfect for cozy evenings.
