The 20 Oldest Homes in the United States

15. General Benjamin Lincoln House in Hingham, MA

According to some accounts, this home was built as early as the 1630s, though it appears more likely to have been built around 1715, according to records maintained by the state of Massachusetts. What is certain is that the wood-shingled, Colonial-style house served as the home of seven generations of Abraham Lincoln’s descendants. Gen. Benjamin Lincoln, a General in the Massachusetts militia and the first U.S. Secretary of War, as well as his wife and seven children made this their home. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1972. The privately owned home was damaged by a fire in 2013. However, it was renovated following the strict guidelines of the Hingham Historic Commission and put on the market for $1.7 million in January 2017.
