The 20 Oldest Homes in the United States

16. Maidstone-on-the-Potomac in Falling Waters, WV

Built in 1741 by Evan Watkins, operator of Watkins Ferry on the Potomac, Maidstone-on-the-Potomac sits on 218 acres alongside the Potomac River. Originally, the Federal-style log home featured two stories on two floors that were linked by a narrow winding staircase and a huge stone fireplace. Later, an addition was made and the home was recovered in brick. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, the home is currently in poor condition, largely due to the damage it suffered from a fire in 2009. This was thought to be an arson attempt. According to the latest documents available, the home is privately owned, though no one lives there.
