Zoom’s Subrah Iyar Spends $14.5 Million in Palos Verdes
Subrah Iyar is an entrepreneur who was born in Mumbai, India, on June 11, 1957. He is known as the co-founder of WebEx and as a major investor in Zoom. Iyar moved to the United States in 1982, after he graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He then completed an M.S in Computer Engineering at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He began his career in the United States at Apple, Inc., where he worked for six years. Iyar then spent a further six years working for Intel before spending a year as the president of Future Labs, then moving on to a position as one of the vice presidents at Telesco Research.
In 1996, Iyar co-founded WebEx with Min Zhu. The web-conferencing tool was a huge success, and the company was acquired by Cisco Systems for $3.2 billion in 2007. His financial success allowed him to take a career break of more than five years to spend time with his two daughters. Iyar is now the CEO of Moxra, which he co-founded in 2012. The entrepreneur is also known as one of the major investors in Zoom and is also an advisor to the company. It is not Iyar’s business success that has attracted attention most recently. According to Mansion Global, the entrepreneur has drawn attention to himself by spending $14.5 million on real estate in Palos Verdes.
An Overview of Subrah Iyar’s Property Purchase
Subrah Iyar’s recent real estate activity is unusual because he has bought two properties in the same street, just five houses apart. Both properties are on a blufftop street in the stunning Palos Verdes Peninsula in Los Angeles. Iyar paid $7.8 million for the larger of the two properties and $6.7 million for the slightly smaller home down the street. At this time, it is unknown why Subrah Iyar has bought the two houses. Many rich and famous people buy two properties to combine them into a larger estate. However, that is not the case as there are properties in between his two real estate purchases. There is speculation that it is possible he has bought the two nearby houses for his adult daughters, Leena and Nikhita. His daughter recently married twin brothers in a lavish ceremony that was filmed as part of the Netflix series ‘The Big Day.’ Both weddings were photographed for Vogue India.
Features of the Larger Property
The larger of the two properties is a Mediterranean-style villa that was constructed in 1989. Internally, it measures almost 7,900-square-feet, and it has six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. Inside the house, the décor is dated, although it clearly seemed luxurious at the time the home was last decorated. There are marble tiled floors and chandeliers in the unusually shaped foyer, which leads through to the main living room. In the living room, there is a large marble fireplace, neutral walls, and dual aspect windows. From the living room, there is a large kitchen. Although many aspects of the house are dated, the kitchen is fitted with top-of-the-range appliances by brands such as SubZero and Wolf. There are wooden floors, white cabinets, gray marble countertops, a range, and a large island.
The kitchen has a breakfast nook at one end, from which there are ocean views. While the breakfast nook is an informal dining space, there is also a formal dining room next to the kitchen. The dining room has the same wooden floors as the kitchen, a chandelier, and an eight-piece dining suite. A further room on the lower floor of the property is the family room, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean and sliding doors leading to the garden. There is also a large home office space that is lined with bookshelves. The master suite is in a separate wing, and it includes an enormous bedroom, a separate sitting room, and a bathroom with a corner soaking tub with a marble surround. From the master bedroom and sitting room, there are spectacular ocean views.
The Grounds of the Larger Property
To the property, which is set behind gates, there is a large motor court and an attached two-car garage. However, most of the 1.66-acre plot is at the mansion’s rear, where there are gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and across to Catalina Island. It is an unusually large plot for the area, and the grounds are the reasons for the high price tag. Directly behind the mansion is a large, concrete terrace, which is the perfect spot for enjoying the views, dining outside, or entertaining guests. Set into the terrace is an outdoor pool with an in-built spa section to the far-right corner. At the far end of the pool is a further lounging area. Beyond the pool, there is a large lawn leading to the end of the garden. The rest of the grounds are formal gardens and hedges, and there are trees at various points around the garden.
Details of the Second Palos Verdes Property
The second property purchased by Subrah Iyar for $6.7 million is similar to the other property in style and size. Like the other property, it was built in the Mediterranean style in 1989, and the house has six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. The total internal living space is more than 7,600-square-feet, says Dirt.com. However, the noticeable difference between the two properties is the lot size, as the second property sits on a lot of only 0.64-acres. Despite the smaller size of the plot, this house’s grounds also benefit from stunning ocean views and views out to Catalina Island. There is a terraced area in the rear garden and then an outdoor swimming pool with an in-built spa. Further from the house, there is a lawned area and a second terrace. The grounds are dotted with palm trees.
