Zappos Founder Nick Swinmurn Buys Lavish Montecito Estate
Nick Swinmurn is a serial entrepreneur who is best known as the founder of Zappos.com. Although he is originally from the UK, Swinmurn grew up in California, which is still his home today. He has a degree in film studies from the University of California. After graduating, he worked in ticket sales for two baseball teams before landing a job at Autoweb.com. Although he left the company in 1998, his time at Autoweb.com inspired Swinmurn to start his own company. The first company founded by Swinmurn was Shoesite.com in 1999, and this company later became Zappos.com. As the company expanded, Swinmurn began to resent the corporate environment of the company and wanted to experience the rush of launching new companies. Therefore, Swinmurn decided to leave Zappos.com in 2006, although he retained shares of the company. The entrepreneur is probably thankful that he held onto some shares, as the company was achieving $1 billion in sales by 2008 and was then sold to Amazon in 2009 for $1.2 billion.
Swinmurn’s shares in the company contribute significantly to his current wealth. Swinmurn has since gone on to found several other companies that have experienced various degrees of success. His companies that remain in operation include Dunk Contest, Nachoria, and Basecamp Fitness. He is also the founder of Dethrone Royalty, which caters to mixed martial arts fans and is now owned by his brother, Mike. In addition to his companies, Swinmurn is a sports team owns. He is in the ownership groups of both Swansea City and Golden State Warriors, and he formerly owned the Burlingame Dragons FC. Swinmurn’s entrepreneurial success has made him wealthy enough to live among the rich and famous in a desirable area of California, as he recently paid $8.6 million for a lavish estate in Montecito. Here is a look at the entrepreneur’s new home.
An Overview of Nick Swinmurn’s Californian Property
Nick Swinmurn already owns property in California, as he has a large estate in the prestigious Silicon Valley of Hillsborough, for which he paid $6.8 million in 2017. Now, he has paid $8.6 million for an estate in the heart of Montecito, which is home to stars such as Meghan Markle, Ellen DeGeneres, and Oprah Winfrey. The two-story property was built in 2010, and it measures 5,133-square-feet. It boasts five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms and sits on a large lot of 1.82-acres. The L-shaped mansion is in the Tuscan villa style.
Inside Nick Swinmurn’s Spectacular Pad
Internally, attractive flooring and white walls are two features that run throughout the mansion, and these are evident on entering the mansion’s foyer. It has white walls and checkerboard-style black and white tile floors. The foyer also has a grand staircase with wooden steps and wrought-iron balustrades leading to the house’s upper level. Although the living room has a light and airy feel thanks to the large windows and neutral walls, it also has a cozy atmosphere thanks to the huge stone fireplace. The dining room has a different look, as it has dark wood flooring and furniture. Both rooms have French doors leading out onto patios. In the kitchen, there is a modern farmhouse style, as it has a beamed ceiling and terracotta tiles on the floor. The wooden cabinetry is also typical of the farmhouse style, and the cabinets are topped with gray countertops.
The island in the center of the kitchen has lighter cabinetry, and the countertop is black. Although the kitchen has a traditional style, it boasts high-end appliances, such as Viking and SubZero appliances. The kitchen also has a butler’s pantry for extra storage. Adjoining the kitchen is a family room, which offers additional living space, and this room has wooden beams and a fireplace. Other rooms on the lower floor include a mudroom and a wine closet with frosted glass doors. All four of the mansion’s bedrooms are on the upper level. The master bedroom has a sitting area set around a fireplace, and there are large picture windows flooding the room with light and offering gorgeous views across the garden. In the master ensuite, there is a built-in soaking top and a large vanity with double sinks.
The Grounds of the Lavish Montecito Estate
Swinmurn’s new home is separated from the street by a gated and tree-lined driveway that leads to a large motor court at the front of the house. Although the motor court has space to park more than six cars, the property also benefits from an attached two-car garage. There are also lawns, shrubs, and mature trees to the property’s front. Immediately behind the mansion is an expansive terrace that is accessed via the family room. It is partially covered by a wooden loggia, which offers an area of shade in warm weather. Under the loggia is an outdoor dining suite, so it is a fantastic spot for alfresco entertaining and dining. The terrace also has a large stone fireplace where friends and family can gather on cooler evenings. From the terrace, there are stone steps leading down to a patio area, which is dominated by a large outdoor pool with an inset spa. To either side of the poolside, there is a lounging area, beyond which are lawns, shrubs, manicured hedges, and mature trees. Dirt.com says that other features of the garden beyond the pool are a vegetable garden, mature olive trees, various fruit trees, and a rose garden. At the end of the pool, there is a poolside cabana that also acts as guest accommodation. Inside the poolside cabana, there is a living room, a guest bedroom, and a bathroom. The structure also has the potential for many other uses if Swinmurn does not use it as a guest house, such as a home office or a gym.
