Brazilian Billionaire Spends $17 Million at the Maybourne Beverly Hills

Once, hotels were places for short-term stays, such as business trips, weekends away, or vacations. However, there is a new trend amongst some luxurious hotels, as some have converted part of the hotel into an area for permanent residences. It gives those who can afford the price tag the opportunity to live in their own apartments and take advantage of all the amenities and facilities on offer at the hotel. One establishment that has devoted an area to permanent residences is the five-star Maybourne Beverley Hills in Los Angeles, CA. It is one of the most exclusive hotels in the city, and it has 20 multimillion-dollar residences spread across its top three floors, which are floors six, seven, and eight.

The Maybourne Beverly Hills and Its Current Residents

Maybourne Beverly Hills was built in 2008, and it was designed in the style of a 1920s Spanish Revival mansion. Until 2019, the building was called Montage Beverly Hills. The name changed when it was sold to the Maybourne Hotel Group for $415 million. It is in downtown Beverly Hills and close to Rodeo Drive, one of the area’s prime locations. Residents of the Maybourne Beverly Hills have private elevators to their luxurious apartments. They also have access to all the hotel’s amenities. These include reservation-only bars, five-star dining options, a rooftop pool, and a 20,000-square-foot fitness center with massage facilities and a spa. Some notable hotel residents include the Rams owner Stan Kroenke, oil heiress Ariadne Getty, Judge Judy, and LA Fitness founder Louis Welch. Gustavo Marquez is one of the newest residents of the hotel. Marquez is an owner of El Mexicano, which is a cheese brand sold in restaurants and supermarkets. He reportedly paid $11 million for his unit on the seventh floor.

The Latest Resident of Maybourne Beverly Hills

In addition to Marquez’s seventh-floor unit, there were two further units available, one on the sixth floor and the other on the eighth floor. Brazilian businesswoman Leila Pereira has snapped up both units. She paid a combined price of $16.9 million for the two units, as one was around $10 million and the other had a price tag of approximately $7 million. Although Pereira is relatively unknown in the United States, she is considered a celebrity. The 56-year-old businesswoman is the owner and president of Crefisa, which is one of Brazil’s largest financial institutions. She is also known for being the biggest financial supporter of the Palmeiras football club. Each year, Pereira and her husband invest millions in the team. Due to the level of her investment and support, there are rumors that she could potentially become the club’s president following the next election, which is scheduled for November 2021. It is her involvement with the football team rather than her business activities that have led to Pereira having more than 658,000 followers on her Instagram account. She has recently been using Instagram to post photos of her lavish new units at Maybourne and of her outings in the surrounding area, including dining out in some of Manhattan’s top restaurants and shopping at the local boutiques.

Pereira’s Residential Units in the Hotel

It is unknown why Pereira has bought two units at the Maybourne. As they are on separate floors, she can’t use them as one residence. Therefore, it is more likely that she has bought one for herself and another to use as a guest unit for visiting friends and family. Although the units were not on the open market when Pereira purchased them, online resources and previous listings indicate their size. It is estimated that the combined living space in the two units is 4,420-square-feet. While the sixth-floor unit has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the eight-floor unit boasts three bedrooms and four bathrooms. The units are large enough to entertain guests in the vast public spaces. Both units have private covered balconies where residents can enjoy the outdoors in a shaded area and watch the activity in Beverly Hills’ downtown area. The balconies are accessed via double sliding doors from the main living room and the master bedroom.

Another feature shared by both units is a stunning dine-in kitchen with high-end appliances, such as SubZero and Wolf appliances, along with custom cabinetry and granite countertops. There is seating at the breakfast bars, plus informal dining areas. While there are no photographs inside the units bought by Pereira, there are photographs available of other residential units at the hotel that indicate the standard of the accommodation. They show that polished marble floors run throughout the units, and the units are finished to an outstanding standard. The number and size of the bedrooms in Pereira’s two apartments varies. However, an example of a master suite in one of the units shows a spacious bedroom with a large marble fireplace and doors leading out onto the private balcony. An example bathroom shows a beautifully appointed room with a fitted soaking tub, a walk-in shower, and vanity with metallic tiles, and a granite countertop. One end of the vanity has drawers, cupboards, and a sink, while the other end up is set up as a dressing area with a stool that slides under the vanity’s countertop.

Pereira’s Other New York Home

The units at the Maybourne Beverly Hills are not Pereira’s only properties. Her main residence is a luxury condo in New York. The condo is on one of Manhattan’s most prestigious streets. According to Dirt.com, she lives in the property with her husband, Jose Roberto Lamacchia, who is the billionaire founder of Cresifa. Although Lamacchia is less sociable than his wife and makes fewer public appearances, he is one of the most respected financiers in Brazil. It is not known how much of her time Pereira plans on spending in her new Manhattan units.
