When it comes into contact with air, sodium percarbonate looks like white crystalline powder. Its chemical formula is Na2CO3·1.5H2O2, meaning that it comprises sodium, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.

It does not occur naturally; it is created from hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate.
