The home sits on 1.06 acres on a double wide lot on the ocean side. The home features a 100 foot private beach. Malibu Sand was designed by architect Gerard Colcord and built in 1958. The celebrated architect designed 300 homes in California in the twentieth century. The Cape Cod and Colonial style home stands out for its character and resembles a home that would typically be seen in New York’s exclusive Hamptons. The home orignialy had a dark gray exterior. It was once the home of play write Neil Simon. Ms. Moore purchased the home in 2014 from longtime owner Susan Disney Loughman, a great niece of Walt Disney. Ms. Moore updated the exterior and interior of the home to retain its Cape Cod style. She added a guest house to the property and expanded the patio.

Charming Entrance

The Malibu Sand property is gated for privacy and features a small charming driveway paved in quaint cobblestone. The driveway is shaded by lovely Sycamore trees and leads to a motor court. The entrance of the home is lined by a white picket fence that enters into a small courtyard before the front door of the main house. Robyn Moore had the exterior of the property’s buildings painted a subtle pale yellow with white trim. The home’s exterior and adjacent buildings including the motor court and guest house blend together to create this charming estate.

Cape Cod Style Main House

The main house is 4900 square feet and has an open floor plan on the main floor, an updated charming Cape Cod style kitchen and 4 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. Robyn Moore refreshed the interior of the Main House of Malibu Sand to give the home an open living space on the main floor with light palettes of white on white. The main floor of the home features hardwood floors, white walls and painted white ceiling beams. Large windows and glass doors provide expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and provide plenty of light. The open great room includes a living room, dining room and sunrooms. The rooms feature built in bookshelves and a large brick and stone fireplace. Ms. Moore remodeled the kitchen making it a farmhouse style kitchen with Cape Cod elements.

The kitchen features state of the art appliances surrounded by white Shaker Style cabinets with black fixtures, a farmhouse style sink and a painted white brick backsplash. The kitchen also features painted white ceiling beams. The centerpiece of the kitchen is a large center island with wood sides painted a becoming canary yellow for a pop of color. The kitchen opens to an outdoor dining area that is shaded and offers beautiful ocean views. The second floor of the main house has an en suite master bedroom, three additional en suite bedrooms and a bonus room that could be used as a fifth bedroom, office space, creative studio space, or a home gym. The master bedroom is painted white with wood floors and features a stunning blue and green mosaic tile fireplace and large windows looking out to the ocean. There is a sitting area in the master bedroom as well as a dressing room and two bathrooms.

New Guest House

Robyn Moore added a guest house to the property off the pool and patio areas. The guest house perfectly compliments the main house and the outdoor areas of Malibu Sand. The guest house features an arched ceiling, French doors and large windows. As with the main house, the guest house features white painted walls and ceiling beams. These are accented with green and blue tiling that compliment the ocean views. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling featuring white, green and blue crystals.
