John Travolta is Selling Hotel-Sized Maine Getaway for $5 Million
John Travolta is an actor and singer who began his career in 1972. He first appeared on television but rose to prominence thanks to landing major film roles in the 1970s, including ‘Carrie,’ ‘Saturday Night Fever,’ and ‘Grease.’ Although his career dwindled during the 1980s, he made a big comeback in the 1990s, and his success has continued. Some of his films include ‘Pulp Fiction,’ ‘Get Shorty,’ ‘Hairspray,’ ‘Swordfish,’ ‘Wild Hogs,’ and ‘Gotti.’ Although he has suffered some personal tragedies, including the deaths of his eldest son and his wife, John Travolta has thrived professionally and financially. His career success has allowed him to build a substantial real estate portfolio. He is now selling his enormous Maine vacation home for $5 million.
John Travolta’s Real Estate Portfolio
Prior to Kelly Preston’s death from breast cancer in July 2020, the couple was shaking up their real estate portfolio, which involved both buying and selling properties. In 2017, the couple splashed out $3 million for a waterfront pad in Clearwater, Florida. Two years later, they also bought a $2.65 million, 7,500-square-feet home in Calabasas, one of the favorite suburbs of Los Angeles for celebrities. In terms of selling, the couple sold one of their long-time properties. It was an estate in Brentwood, one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Records show that they did not list the property on the open market but sold it to music manager Scooter Braun, formerly their next-door neighbor, for $18 million. John Travolta, who is a licensed pilot, also owns a sprawling house in Ocala, Florida. The estate is so big that he stores his fleet of planes on the property’s grounds, including a Boeing 747.
An Overview of the Maine Property Travolta is Listing
The Maine property that Travolta is listing is on the island enclave of Islesboro, which is only possible to access via ferry. Travolta first fell in love with the semi-remote island more than 30 years ago. Actress Kirstie Alley first introduced Travolta and Preston to the island, as she owns a substantial property on the island’s south end. At the time, Preston and Travolta were newlyweds, and they wanted a vacation home where they could spend time with their families over the holidays. They eventually found the perfect property in 1991. Their vacation home in Maine sits on a 48.13-acre estate. It is a three-story house that measures 10,830-square-feet, and it boasts 20 bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. The 1904 property was designed by architects Peabody and Sterns, and the most recent interior design update was by Christopher Boshears. Travolta is now listing the hotel-sized Maine vacation home for $5 million.
The Exterior of the Property
A graveled driveway passes through stone pillars and beneath a canopy of dense, mature trees before reaching a forecourt that circles around a pine tree in front of the three-story shingled cottage. Surrounding the property on all four sides are lawns, and the estate is enclosed by trees that give the estate a sense of privacy. Some areas of the vast and unspoiled estate are conserved by the Islesboro Island Trust. Although the house is set away from the shore, the grounds extend to the water and include a stretch of rocky waterfront and a private water dock on Sabbathday Bay. Therefore, the homeowner can spend time on the water’s edge or even out on the water. To the rear of the property, one of the main features is an outdoor swimming pool, which is set in a sunny clearing in the trees. Another feature of the grounds is the carriage house, which Travolta once kept a vintage car for getting around the island, says Dirt.com. However, it is also suitable to convert into a small guest house.
Inside the Hotel-Sized Maine Vacation Home
The foyer is used as a multifunctional space that is divided into different areas, including conversation areas, a dining area, and a bar. It displays an array of colors, with patterned yellow curtains, striped chairs, and pink sofas with lime green cushions. There is also a large formal dining room with yellow walls, floral curtains, and a large, white fireplace. Travolta’s vacation home also boasts two sunrooms, one of which is on the property’s second floor and offers views across the grounds and beyond. In the kitchen, there is the same traditional style that runs throughout the home. However, the kitchen is equipped with high-end, chef-grade appliances. Although the wooden cabinets are painted white, and there are matching wood floors and countertops, the colorful theme also continues in this room. There are green pendant lights hanging above the breakfast bar and the countertops, and a bright orange pelmet tops the windows. There are further pops of color with the accessories on display.
Next to the kitchen is a large pantry that has plenty of shelving and glass-fronted cabinets for food and crockery storage. The pantry also displays vintage cake stands and an array of antique, patterned teacups. There is also additional countertop space and an extra sink in the pantry, and a window above the sink offers views across the garden. The house’s 20 bedrooms are spread across all three floors of the property. The master on the ground floor is so large that it has space for a private sitting and dining area. It also has a fireplace and a private sun porch. In the master ensuite, there is a vintage-style freestanding bath. On the second floor, there are fourteen guest bedrooms that share just four of the house’s 7.5 bathrooms. The third floor has become a children’s wing, with four themed bedrooms that include a Peter Pan Room and a Princess Room. There is also a library, a schoolroom, a theater with a built-in stage, and a diner.
