What Is Underbed Storage And How Can You Maximize It?

If you are short on space in your bedroom then underbed storage can be a great solution. It helps you to make the most of every bit of floor space that you have in the room. It is also a more cost-effective solution than other storage solutions such as wardrobes.

If you are considering underbed storage then you will need to make sure that your bed is far enough off the ground to be able to get the storage underneath. If you know that you are going to be getting things in and out of your underbed storage on a regular basis then you may want to choose a container that has wheels on the bottom that can be pulled from under the bed quickly and then pushed back when it is not needed.

You can also buy beds that come with storage solutions already incorporated into the bed. This can be in the form of drawers that are already built into the bed or space within the bed that you can access by lifting up the base where the mattress sits. The disadvantage of this is that it does not really give you much flexibility in terms of customizing the storage space as you can only work with what you already have.

When you are thinking about underbed storage the first thing that may come to mind is white plastic containers that you would rather keep right under the bed so that they don’t have to be seen. However, this is not the only option that you have available to you. Storage containers that are designed to fit under the bed come in a variety of styles and colors. This makes it easy to find something that is going to fit in with the existing decor of your bedroom.

If you have decided that underbed storage is something that you want to invest in then there are some steps that you can take to prepare the room so that you can maximize the storage space you do have.

If you have been living in the property for some time then there is a good chance that there is a lot of stuff that would have accumulated under your bed. In order to create room for the storage containers then you are going to need to clear all of this away. If things have been under your bed for some time then there is a good chance that they are things that you won’t be using anytime soon. If this is the case then you need be ruthless and throw them out so they won’t be taking up space in your new storage containers.

When the floor is clear then you can start to work out how much space you have available. When you start to look for storage containers then you will want to know that they are going to fit under your bed. You will also need to think about how many units you are going to have. Some people don’t mind having the units showing at the edges of the bed whereas others prefer to have them right underneath the bed and out of sight. It all depends on your personal preference but is something that you will want to think about.

You also need to think about what you are going to be keeping in the storage containers. If you have clothes that you want to lie flat then you may be better with a couple of longer containers rather than several smaller ones. If you are planning on using the space under your bed for storing smaller items and knick-knacks then more compact boxes that can be labeled may be a better choice. There is also no reason why you can’t have a combination of different sizes as long as they are going to fit.

Once you have chosen the storage containers and they are in place then you need to keep them organized. If the space underneath your bed was a mess to start with then this could have been because things just got placed under there because you had nowhere else to put them. If you want to make the most of the storage space that you have available then this is something that you need to keep on top of.
