If you use the head of a bed, try enhancing the headboard with bold-colored throw pillows to draw the eyes in even more. If you choose a window, add eye-catching draperies to make the window pop and make it the center of attention.

2. Smaller scaled furniture

Small rooms look cluttered fast, especially if you put large pieces of furniture in the room. It might be tempting to get the biggest desk, bed or dresser, but large furniture eats up floor space and leaves the room looking overwhelming, unusable and crowded. For a bigger, more open feel, choose light colors for the walls and use the features of the room, and the furniture for adding a burst of color and boldness. Bold and bright colored throw pillows and draperies can add flare to the room. For more color, add a brightly colored piece of art deco on the wall to give your room character.
