The 20 Oldest Homes in the United States

7. Stephen Northup House in North Kingstown, RI

Dating back to 1660, this home was built by Stephen Northup, an immigrant from Great Britain who was named the Town Sergeant of Providence in 1660 and gifted 25 acres of land to build on. It is believed to have taken around two years to complete the two-story, saltbox-style home, which was almost completely burned to the ground during King Philip’s War (1675-1678). However, the home was rebuilt and historians believe that parts of the original home were used, landing it on this list. The Northup House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and is privately owned by a family that has restored its interior and added two additions.
