Rustic Retreat On A Lakeside – Maine Camp by Whitten Architects

Maine Camp is the rustic house on a lakeside in Bridgton, Maine, USA, designed by Whitten Architects for a client that wanted a getaway retreat. The house is placed on a 12 acre site abounded by woods and the lake water. Good thing for privacy is the private access to the lake, so that the dwellers can enjoy the full natural experience with nobody bothering them.

In the rustic camp we find the main house, the guest house and a studio barn that can easily be used as a garage. The transition between the volumes is nicely made through a wooden deck that connects them, offering, at the same time, lounging and relaxing areas.

For the structure and exterior facade, wood and stone were used and the same materials were being kept for the interiors, as well. One important element to define the rustic character of this place is the massive stone fireplace, warming up the cozy atmosphere from the living room.
