Rock, steel and wood are the three elements to compound the beautiful architecture of this home in Johannesburg presented today. Nico van der Meulen Architects was the firm in charge of the project which turned out to be a great challenge. The base idea was for the interior to interact as much as it can with the outdoor areas, taking advantage of the amazing summer that lasts eight months in Johannesburg.
The interior design is very sleek and modern, with a lovely elegance given by the tasteful touches that simply make the difference. Shades of dark brown and black abound in the living area at the ground floor though furnishings, being calmed by the neutral walls and floors and the natural light coming in through sliding glass doors.
At the second level, right after the staircase, a small corner for relaxation is created. A soft white couch is comfortable and invites for moments of respite in a hidden and private spot. Out, in the open space, a wooden deck with lounge chairs sit next to the pool.
