20 Gorgeous Dining Rooms with Beautiful Chandeliers

Your dining room is probably the most special room in the house. It’s beautiful, it’s elegant, it’s where you entertain guests and have special dinners with the family. Of course you want it to be functional, but adding beauty, style and taste are what the dining room is all about. It’s the one room in the home that you can have a little more specialty items to showcase your best furniture pieces, your best dishware, your taste and style in a beautiful dining set, and a gorgeous chandelier to hang over it.

Choosing a dining room chandelier may feel a little overwhelming when you see all the choices there are now. With so many décor styles, chandelier designs cater to all of them so that you have the option to go classic elegant, rustic, chic, modern or any décor you love and feel comfortable with. So, how do you choose the perfect dining room chandelier and how do you make it look the best in your dining room? Here are some tips to get you started.

Choose one that goes with your home’s architectural design

A dining room chandelier is not a piece of design décor that is easily changed out in the home. Once you hang it, it will typically be there until the day you move and the new homeowners take over the home, or you take the chandelier with you in a move. That being said, no matter what type of style you have decorated your home with, choosing a chandelier that matches your home’s era and architectural design is the best way to keep from wanting to, or needing to buy and re-hang a dinging room chandelier.

If your home is modern today so you hang a modern chandelier, over time your taste could change. Maybe shabby chic is what you want to change to, and suddenly a new chandelier is needed to replace the modern. This can be expensive and a hassle. Sticking with the over all architectural design of the home and era will help to keep from needing to replace a dining room chandelier in the future –  keeping in mind that of course it should be one that you are happy with and feel comfortable with.

Pick your size

Not all chandeliers work with all dining rooms. Chandeliers range in sizes and picking the right size is an important factor for making sure the chandelier works for your dining room and dining table. If you have a large dining room, and large table, hanging too small of a chandelier would obviously look awkward, just as having a large chandelier hanging over a small table, in a small dining room.

A large chandelier will dwarf a table and make a small room look smaller and cramped. Be sure to measure the space you have for a chandelier and your table. Large rooms and large tables can handle bigger chandeliers, and maybe even two smaller chandeliers – one for each end of the table.

Hanging your chandelier

Many people think that a chandelier automatically gets hung in the center of the room, no matter where the table is located. This is not the right way, however, since many tables are often a little off center, due to another piece of furniture preventing it from being centered – a buffet or china hutch. The chandelier should always be centered directly over the dining table to create an even flow through the room and with the furniture.
