The 20 Most Expensive Celebrity Homes in the World

It’s impossible to deny the fact that celebrities like to take things to the next level. From world-class vacations that most of us can only dream of to luxury cars made by Maserati, Rolls Royce, and Bugatti, they definitely seem to have the best of everything.

Of course, this extends to where they live. After all why live in a “regular” house when you can live in one that is way over the top? The celebrities on this list have managed to take over the top up another notch.

Here are the 20 most expensive celebrity homes in the world:

20. Jennifer Lopez – $28 million

Despite being on the market for $40 million, Jennifer Lopez purchased this 14,000 sq. ft. Bel Air mansion for a mere $28 million in 2016. The 7-bedroom, 13-bathroom home was designed and built by famed architect Samuel Marx in 1940 and features 10 carved wood or stone fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling windows and a vaulted ceiling in the main living room, a downstairs pub, a 30-seat screening room, and a stone-accented kitchen topped with skylights.

The outside is just as spectacular, thanks to 2 guesthouses, a terrace with infinity pool, a 100-seat amphitheater, a vineyard and organic vegetable garden, a man-made swimming pond with beach, a pagoda with a fire pit, and a mini golf course.

19. Mel Gibson – $29.75 Million

Although he’s the proud owner of multiple luxury properties, its Mel Gibson’s Costa Rican hideaway that makes this list. Referred to as “Playa Barrigona,” the 500 acre property includes over 2 miles of pristine beachfront, three houses, and hundreds of acres of jungle that is home to a variety of wildlife.

The main 7-bedroom, 8-bathroom home was constructed using coral stone and features ornate stone carvings, Italian and Spanish tiles, and balconies overlooking the courtyard, pool, and open-air dining room and commercial kitchen below. The other two houses include everything you could ever need in a home, including their own private pools.

18. Gwen Stefani – $35 million

Currently for sale with a list price of $35 million, Gwen’s Hollywood Hills 12,000 sq. ft. home was previously owned by Jennifer Lopez. Known as “The Summit,” the gated and guarded home features dramatic architecture and a black-and-white design scheme and includes 6 bedrooms, including a master suite with two separate master bathrooms and dressing areas, 5 fireplaces constructed from patterned marble and granite, and every indoor luxury you would expect.

Outside, there is a 1-bedroom guesthouse, as well as a large infinity pool, outdoor kitchen, dining, and living area with fireplace, a playground, a lighted tennis court, and a chicken coop. Best of all, the property offers spectacular views of the San Fernando Valley.

17. Lori Laughlin – $35 million

Also currently on the market for $35 million, this 12,000 sq. ft. LA-area home is owned by Fuller House’s Lori Laughlin and her designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli. The couple purchased the 6-bedroom, 9-bathroom home that overlooks the Bel-Air Country Club for a mere $13.995 million in 2015, but have given it a complete overhaul, allowing for the huge price boost.

Today, the neo-Mediterranean-style villa features all kinds of architectural touches, including a double-height exposed wood ceiling in the foyer, floor- to-ceiling glass doors, a basket weave pattern stone tiled floor, and a gold-toned bar that is linked to the living room via three massive archways. Outside, there are multiple stone terraces, arched loggias (a fancy word for open-sided rooms), and a spa.

16. Celine Dion Jupiter, FL estate – $38.5 million

Although Celine Dion sold her 5.7 acre Jupiter, FL beachfront estate earlier this year, it is still worth putting on the list. The Bahamian-inspired estate, which includes a resort-style water park with a lazy river and twisting waterslides, was built to her specifications.

The 10,000 sq. ft., open concept main house features every possible extravagance, including a custom closet complete with automated clothes racks and shoe carousels.

Outside, there are two additional guest houses, a simulated golf range, tennis house with tennis court, a pool house with a built-in kitchen, another pool (infinity-style), and a beach house with massage room. Seriously, she sold it?

15. P. Diddy – $40 million

Although he already owned multiple homes, P. Diddy decided to make this 2-story, European-style villa his “family home” in 2014. Sitting on an acre of land in Holmby Hills, CA, the home includes 8 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a gym, wine cellar, 35-seat theater, and an underwater tunnel that leads out to the grotto and lagoon-style pool.

A second house serves as the guest house, while a “spa pavilion” sits slightly farther away and includes a private beauty salon, massage room, and steam room.

14. Dr. Dre – $40 million

Although this 14,000 sq. ft. estate, which sits on 4 acres of prime real estate in Brentwood, CA, was built by Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady, the couple sold it to Dr. Dre before moving in. For the steep price, he received a 5-bedroom home with a moat and a huge infinity pool looking out over the Pacific Ocean.

Also outdoors, is an amazing poolside cabana with sitting area and TV, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, and an outdoor bathtub. Inside, which was mostly constructed from reclaimed or antique materials, Dr. Dre can take advantage of the chef’s kitchen, out-of-this-world master bathroom, home gym, and countless sitting areas, among other things.

13. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith- $42 million

Featured in the September 2011 issue of Architectural Digest, Will and Jada’s custom 25,000 sq. ft. home sits on 150 acres in Malibu, CA. The home, which the couple has described as “a spiritual endeavor,” is nothing short of spectacular, primarily because the entire structure was built by hand.

In addition to 9 bedrooms, a state-of-the-art recording studio, a meditation room, multiple secret nooks, the home includes a humongous pool designed to look like a lake or pond, full basketball court, separate tennis court, three golf holes, a large pasture, and a lake with gazebo.

There is no shortage of little extras, such as the floors inlaid with river stones, exposed ceiling timbers harvested from out barns, and hammered wrought iron banisters on the stairs

12. Ellen DeGeneres – $45 million

Currently on the market, Ellen’s stunning Santa Barbara estate consists of slightly less than 17 acres looking out at the mountains and the Pacific. The centerpiece is, of course, the 10,000 sq. ft. home. Known as “The Villa,” it was built in 1930 and includes 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, as well as an 850 sq. ft. living room with rustic exposed beans, 18th-century Italian tile floors, a fireplace, and library.

An indoor-outdoor living space, referred to as “Jordan Hall” makes it easy to enjoy all the outdoor space has to offer, including the pool, outdoor kitchen with pizza oven, sunken tennis court, and gorgeous gardens with fountains. Ellen, by the way, is known as quite the real estate mogul in California, where she frequently flips properties. She purchased this villa in 2012 for $26.5 million.

11. Demi Moore – $45 million

Although Demi sold her NYC triplex in August, it is still included on the list because it’s such an outstanding property. In fact, the asking price was $75 million for this “floating mansion” that rises above Central Park when it first went on the market in 2015.

The 7,000 sq. ft. triplex penthouse includes 6 bedrooms and 5 ½ bathrooms and is located in the historic San Remo complex, where the monthly HOA fees will cost the new (unnamed, so it could be another celebrity) owner $19,322 a month.

There are several things that stand out about this penthouse, such as the projection room, elaborate plaster ceiling moldings, fireplace accentuated with turquoise tile, and the 1,500 sq. ft. stone terrace that wraps almost completely around the building’s top tower.

10. Sting – $50 million

Sting’s NYC penthouse in the renowned 15 Central Park West building manages to outdo Demi’s, despite being smaller with just 5,417 sq. ft. What it does have is 43 feet of Central Park frontage, which can be enjoyed out on the terrace or through the floor-to-ceiling windows that seem to be in every room, as well as a unique open fireplace in the living room, double sculptural spiral staircases, dual spa bathrooms and a sauna in the master bedroom, and top-of-the-line appliances.

The building boasts a sky-lit lap pool, fitness center, steam room, screening room, and private restaurant. Despite all of this, Sting sold the property to a mystery buyer less than 2 months ago.

9. Cindy Crawford – $50 million

Originally on the market for $60 million, Cindy Crawford’s beachfront Malibu compound can now be purchased for $50 million. Situated on 3 acres of land overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the 4- bedroom, 5 ½-bathroom Hacienda-style villa was built in 1944, though Cindy and her husband, Rande Gerber, recently renovated the entire thing.

The home features walls of sliding glass doors and a wraparound deck with a fire pit and pool that brings the outdoors in. Also the with the 5,500 sq. ft. home and pool on the park-like property is a tennis court and a private path to the beach below.

8. Howard Stern – $52 million

Purchased in 2013, Howard’s Palm Beach 18,673 sq. ft. mansion sits on 3.25 acres that backs up to the Atlantic Ocean. Since he bought the 12-bedroom home, he has done countless renovations, which included the addition of a 1,000 sq. ft. closet for his wife. Property details are very limited, though we do know the property boasts an oceanfront pool.

7. Tiger Woods – $54.5 million

Custom built to Tiger’s (and former wife, Elin’s) specifications on elusive Jupiter Island, this gorgeous 10,000 sq. ft. home backs up to the ocean. Inside, the 4-bedroom home, which includes a glass-fronted elevator for anyone who wants to take in the incredible sea views as they bypass the stairs, is a wine cellar, theater, and game room.

In 2013, there were reports that the house was starting to sink as a result of Florida’s soft soil (Apparently, not an uncommon problem in the Sunshine State.), although there isn’t really any follow-up information available.

6. Tom Cruise – $59 million

Spanning 298 acres just outside of Telluride, CO, Tom Cruise’s 10,000 sq. ft. house includes floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, allowing for panoramic views of the mountains. Cedar timbers flank the walls and ceilings, while native stone was used to create a magnificent fireplace.

Inside the home, you’ll find a home gym, rec room, and library. Outside, there is a private trail system, a lighted court for basketball, tennis, and hockey, a private motocross track, and a quaint 1,600 sq. ft. guesthouse with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

5. Jay Z and Beyonce – $88 million

With an original asking price of $135 million, Jay Z and Beyonce got this 2 acre Bel Air compound for a deal. The property is comprised of 6 separate structures, including the 30,000 sq. ft. main house (8 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms), a gaming/ entertainment building, and a 15-car garage, as well as 4 pools and a basketball court.

The Smart House boasts a helipad, bullet proof windows, in-house spa and fitness center, a custom staircase made from exotic wood and featuring stone steps lined with brown leather, 40 ft. ceilings in the main living space, and sliding glass walls that can completely recede to open the interior up to the huge patio and lawn.

4. Oprah Winfrey – $88 million

Often referred to as “The Promised Land,” Oprah’s Monecito, CA 42 acre estate is nothing short of magnificent. The 6-bedroom, 14 bathroom Neo-Georgian style main house includes a gourmet kitchen, wine cellar, theater (with a second one outside), and multiple (covered and uncovered) terraces that make it easy to enjoy the gorgeous grounds.

Outside, there are equestrian facilities, including riding rings, paddocks, covered stalls, a horse trainer’s house, and a state-of-the-art stable and barn, as well as pool, two outdoor fireplaces, a man-made stocked lake for fishing, multiple ponds, a 2 acre avocado grove, a koi pond, rose gardens, entertainment area, and a guest house with separate pool. When the main house gets to be too much, Oprah can head out to the teahouse, where she often goes to relax.

3. George Lucas – estimated at $100 million

The famed director purchased the 4,700 acre Skywalker Ranch in 1974 and is believed to have spent around $100 million renovating and updating it over the years. Today, specific information about the Marin County, CA property is secretive.

Visitors must be invited and pictures are not allowed. (In fact, it’s rumored that Ronald Reagan asked to see the property during his presidency, but the request was turned down.) What is known is that the property includes several buildings, a 300-seat theater, separate 2-story library, outdoor pool, underground parking for 200, a thriving garden, and vineyards. In addition, it is said to have its own fire station.

2. George Clooney – $100 million

Although there have been rumors over the years that George Clooney plans to sell Villa Oleandra, his estate in Laglio, Italy, that doesn’t seem to be the case, based on a recent interview he did with The Hollywood Reporter. Constructed during the 18th century on the banks of Lake Como, the home is, today, the perfect mix of its original charm and all the modern amenities one would expect in a house with this price tag.

For example, it has ornately carved ceilings and tile floors, but has been renovated to include a full gym, huge spa-like bathrooms, and a “pizza room.” The grounds are spectacular and include landscaped gardens, a pool, tennis courts, a garage for his motorcycles, and an outdoor theater.

1. Bill Gates – $125 million

Although he’s not technically a celebrity in the sense that he doesn’t act or sing, Bill Gates is famous enough to be included (and TOP) this list. It’s really impossible to describe Bill’s Medina, WA state-of-the-art lakefront estate, Xanadu 2.0, so here are a few of the highlights.

The 7-bedroom, 24-bathroom house spans over 66,000 sq. ft. and includes 6 kitchens, a 2,100 sq. ft. library with domed roof, an exercise room with a sauna, separate men’s and women’s locker rooms, a steam room, and a trampoline room, an indoor/ outdoor pool with underwater music system, a man-made stream stocked with trout and salmon, and a theater.

There are plenty of over-the-top technological features, including rotating artwork and pressure sensitive floors that ensures security knows where everyone is at all times.

Of course, your location shouldn’t be too much of a problem as all guests are issued a microchip in a pin that tracks their location, while also allowing them to change the temperature and lighting to their own preference.

By the way, the estate ends at a beach on Lake Washington. The beach consists of sand that was brought over by a barge from Saint Lucia.
