2016 marked the highest year of crime in Toledo since 2012. There were a reported 36 homicides in the city, which is said to be the highest since 2012. The city has higher than national and state averages in both violent and property crimes, with the average of Toledo being 618.1 in violent crimes and 477.4 in property crimes compared to the nation’s average at the time of 207.7 violent, and 220.1 property crime averages. Toledo officials say they are trying to clean up the city’s crime, but until they can get a handle on the crime levels, it remains a higher than average, crime risk.
